DUCK HILL — David Wayne Newton, age 51, of Duck Hill, passed away Saturday, Dec. 13, surrounded by his family.
A memorial service will be held Friday, Dec. 19, McKibben & Guinn Funeral Home in Grenada. Visitation will begin at 10 am, with the memorial service following at 11 am.
Born on November 18, 1974, in Greenwood,, David was the son of Jim Newton and the late Janice Dear. He grew up in Charleston and carried with him a deep appreciation for the simple joys of life—family, faith, and time spent outdoors.
David recently devoted his life to Christ, finding great comfort and strength in his faith during this last year of the battle for his health. He enjoyed reading his Bible and listening to Christian inspirational songs, which brought him peace and comfort in facing each day. He could be found doing these things when having trouble sleeping, which seemed to be every day for him recently. He would be wearing his “beanie” while feeding the wood heater beginning each morning around 1:30 am.
A man of many talents and passions, David found fulfillment in woodworking, gardening, cooking, and fishing. Whether crafting something with his hands, cooking, or tending to his garden, he approached each task with care and enthusiasm. An avid crappie fisherman, he cherished time spent on Grenada Lake. He also had a love for watching college football. David was known for bringing humor into every room he entered, and his warmth and wit left lasting impressions on those fortunate enough to know him.
David deeply loved his family. He is survived by his devoted wife Lisa Newton; stepdaughter, Alexus Bolton (Dylan); stepsons, Anthony Powell and Andrew Powell; granddaughter, Hazel Bolton; father, Jim Newton (Glenda); step-father, Grady Dear; sister, Kimberly Rice (Jack); brother, Danny Newton (Stephanie); nieces, Amber Ratcliff and Hailey Rice; and nephew, Connor Rice.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Janice Dear.
May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him and may his legacy of love, laughter, and faith continue to inspire all who were touched by his life.
