They can be aggressive and dangerous!
Or they can be 8 pounds of silky-haired determination.
In the United States, the German shepherd, rottweiler, Doberman pinscher, cane corso and bullmastiff are the top breeds of dogs chosen as dependable guard dogs. They have to be trained and socialized for the job.
Then, there’s the highly vocal, Yorkshire Terrier. According to research, the “Scottish immigrants” brought “Skye terriers, Clydesdale terriers and Paisley terriers to England in the mid-1800s crossing them.” These little bundles of energy and ferocious hunting abilities were used in “mills and mines” to “control rodents.” Their small size, bravery and loyalty made them popular. Their beautiful silky coats and small size caused them to become popular with the “upper class Victorians by the 1870’s” (AKC History).
We looked and looked for a Yorkie puppy. Finally, a retired pastor in southern Mississippi met us with his puppy, and we “adopted” Maxmillion, Max, our little furry companion. He has been a source of laughter, joy, worry and, sometimes, exasperation!
Last night we were almost asleep in bed and heard two gunshots. About 20 minutes later we heard three more.
We have three white Pyrenees dogs that are our outside guard dogs, who keep us alerted to anything going on the property. Max was convinced that there was great danger outside our bedroom windows. He jumped off the bed and ran into the living room, where he continued his tirade of barking, running and twirling in circles. Gary got up and opened the front door to look and assure Max all was well.
Think about your spiritual life. Do you have any “guards set up” for your protection against Satan and his tricks and minions? James 4:7, which I say every day, tells us, “Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” 2 Thessalonians 3:3 says, “But the Lord is faithful. He will establish you and guard you against the evil one.” Proverbs 4:23 tells us, “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.” Also read Ephesians 6:17.
You are not weak and defeated! There are many assurances! God provides what you need to be victorious in Him over Satan.
