We have reached that part of late spring when the mercury begins a generally steady climb toward the sticky part of the year, otherwise known as summertime.
In Tallahatchie County, daytime temperatures in the mid to upper 80s are forecast for the next week-and-a-half, at least. Toward the end of this Weather Channel forecast window — at least on Tuesday afternoon — is predicted to be a six-day stretch with high temps approaching 90.
When it gets that hot in Mississippi, we begin looking for air conditioning, shade trees and any other way to cool off.
This reminds us of what we saw recently at Tallahatchie General Hospital. Members of the maintenance crew were busy hanging a ceiling fan on the front porch near the hospital entrance, where patients, nursing home residents, visitors and staff frequently congregate to enjoy some fresh air. That period of soaking up the environment and socializing has been made even more pleasant by the simple act of hanging this ceiling fan.
Little things like that — especially when the weather bears down — can make life so much more enjoyable and the heat less bothersome.
