WEBB — The former boyfriend of a local teenage girl is on the lam and being sought by law enforcement in connection with her shooting death here Tuesday night.
Christopher Logan, about 45, of 229 Laura St., Webb, is named in an arrest warrant for the charge of murder, according to Webb Police Department spokesperson officer Marvin Pryor.
Logan allegedly shot to death Dontrenecia “Chyna” Byrd, 19, inside a mobile home at 850 Chickasaw St., Webb, where she lived with her mother and 9-year-old sister, Pryor said.
The officer said Byrd and her sister were home alone when Logan allegedly arrived on the scene Tuesday night.
“As far as I know, they were boyfriend/girlfriend and had broken up about a week or so ago,” said Pryor, when asked about the relationship between Byrd and Logan. “She supposedly had papers, a restraining order, filed against him in Sumner.”
Pryor said Byrd’s sister told investigators that Logan came inside the home — whether entry was forced or invited is unknown at this time, Pryor added — and “she heard them arguing, then she heard some shots being fired.”
The officer said the shooting occurred about 10 p.m. in a back bedroom of the home.
When Pryor arrived at the scene in response to a 10:08 p.m. call about the shooting, he found Byrd unresponsive on the floor of the bedroom. Paramedics were unable to get a pulse, the officer explained, and she was pronounced dead at the scene.
“I can’t really say how many times she was shot,” Pryor noted. “I can’t say just once, because there were several casings on the floor.”
No weapon has been recovered yet, he added.
Authorities are awaiting the results of an autopsy to learn more.
Pryor said the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is assisting the Webb Police Department in the investigation.
A Facebook account registered under the name of “MrsLogan TooBe” was still active late Wednesday, the day after the shooting. A Dec. 28, 2017, post on that page featured photographs of Byrd and Logan together under the headline, “Got Engaged to Christopher Logan.”
Pryor said he was unaware that the two had apparently been engaged to be married.
