Joe Young, pastor of Faith Baptist Church near Charleston, is asking other local churches and civic organizations to conduct a canned food drive to assist in supplying the Faith Food Pantry with enough goods for its planned Sept. 25 distribution.
The pantry’s normal supplier, Mississippi Food Network, will have no groceries available until the following week, Young explained.
However, he said the timing of the pantry’s monthly distribution is set to provide maximum benefit.
“It is important that when possible, food be distributed about a week before the end of the month, when families and widows have the greatest need,” the pastor explained.
Young asks that donors collect canned foods for Faith Food Pantry from now through Sunday, Sept. 18.
“Boxes of food may be left at the covered entrance at Faith Baptist Church, at 6372 Highway 32 just east of Charleston,” he noted. “Food is moved inside twice daily.”
Faith Food Pantry at Faith Baptist Church serves residents of eastern Tallahatchie County.
Young said several churches and the Charleston Arts and Revitalization Effort already assist with the work of this “helping ministry.”
