Nomination forms for the Tallahatchie County Farm Service Agency (FSA) committee can currently be obtained from the Tallahatchie FSA office located at 360 W. Cypress St. in Charleston.
Completed nomination forms are due back to the FSA office by Aug. 1, 2025.
This year’s election is for Local Administrative Area 3 of the county, which is the East Delta area between Highway 35 and the Tallahatchie River. Jody Murphey currently serves as the committee member for this area. Any interested producer, landowner or FSA participant who is a voter in LAA 3 is eligible to serve if they meet all other eligibility requirements.
Jody has served for one three-year term on the Tallahatchie County committee and is eligible to be reelected. Currently, he serves as chairperson of the FSA committee.
FSA county committee term limits allow up to three consecutive terms on the committee.
FSA county committees make decisions on things like commodity price support loans and payments; establishment of bases, yields and commodity loans; conservation programs; livestock assistance; and ad hoc disaster payments when authorized by legislation.
Sign-up for the 2025 Agriculture Risk Coverage (ARC) and Price Loss Coverage (PLC) programs has ended but time remains to revise the ARC/PLC contract participants with a successor contract if the farm has changed hands this year.
Also, late-filed ARC/PLC enrollments may be possible for those that missed the April 15 deadline. However, Sept. 30 is the absolute final date to change a contract or to late file a request for a 2025 contract.
