2024 Acreage Reporting
Filing an acreage report on ALL cropland on a farm is a requirement to participate in most USDA farm programs.
I think I have used this phrase, as they do in many bars at closing time, “It’s the last call for alcohol.” Well, this is the last article reminding everyone to report their crop acreage by July 15, 2024. Oh, you can report 2024 acreage after that, but it will cost you a fee to late file. So why do that?
More importantly, if you never reported you crop acreage to FSA for 2024, then July 15, 2024, is the final date you can late file with a fee.
The planted acreage of all row crops should also be reported to all private crop insurance agents by July 15, 2024, to receive coverage on 2024 crops.
Producers usually report crops field by field using aerial photocopies to FSA initially, and then use a copy of the FSA 578 Report of Acreage Producer Print they received from FSA to file their acreage reports with crop insurance.
Pastureland for grazing is a continuous acreage report now and producers no longer must file annual acreage reports on grazing land. However, if a livestock producer leases or purchases new grazing acreage, that should be reported to FSA by July 15.
Producers are reminded that planting dates are required to be reported on all row crops, so be prepared when visiting FSA.
Lastly, all CRP participants must report their acreage annually by July 15.
We have attempted to contact all CRP participants over the past six months and ask them to come in and sign a 2024 acreage report and even offered to email or mail it. Unfortunately, many do not respond to our request and July deadline approaches with acreage reports we ran for them when we talked by phone or emailed, without a signature.
There is nothing else we can do. If you do not want to help us, help you! Reporting crop acreage for CRP annual is a requirement to earn annual CRP rental payment each October.
