On Tuesday, Dec. 6, community members gathered at the Tallahatchie County Library in Charleston for a holiday brunch.
The event was organized by the Friends of the Tallahatchie Library group to recruit members for the nonprofit organization and its steering board.
Lacy Ellingwood, from the Mississippi Library Commission, presented information on starting up a friends group as well as best practices for supporting the library.
The Friends of the Tallahatchie Library group will serve both the Charleston and Tutwiler libraries.
Community members on hand were excited to have an opportunity to start an organization that will help raise funds and advocate for the Tallahatchie County libraries.
The group planned for its official kickoff event to be held this week — Wednesday, Dec. 14, starting at 3:30 p.m. — at the Charleston Library.
Mrs. Claus was scheduled to drop by at 3:30 p.m. to give away free books and to read some holiday classics, and families with students ages 4-8 were encouraged to attend the celebration — just one of many community-minded engagement events to come.
