SOUTHAVEN — George Arnold Hodges, Sr., age 79, passed away Thursday, Feb. 13, in Southaven.
Graveside services were held 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 16, at Bethel Cemetery at Teasdale with Darrell Surrette officiating. Coleman Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
He was born March 7, 1945 in Water Valley.
George was a kindhearted and generous man, admired for his unwavering strength, compassionate spirit, and deep love for his family. A hardworking and resilient individual, he faced life’s challenges with grace, never allowing hardships to define him. He found joy in watching westerns, cheering on Ole Miss football, and cherishing time spent at family reunions – moments that meant the world to him. His presence brought warmth and laughter to those around him, and his legacy of love and perserverance will continue to inspire all who knew him.
A member of Bethel Methodist Church in Teasdale, he lived a life of faith and service. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and later retired from the National Automatic Sprinkler System.
He is survived by his grandchildren, George Hunter Hodges and wife Ashley of Memphis, Taylor Hodges of Southaven and Jacob Heath Hodges of Okla.; sisters, Ann Calvert of Southaven and Virgina Murphree of Enid.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Griffin Lake Hodges Sr. and Melba Mae Hodges; son, George Arnold Hodges Jr.; and his siblings, Robert Hodges, Babe Hodges, Linnie Beardain, John Lewis Hodges, Betty Sue Norman, Jean DeBois and Griffin Lake Hodges Jr.
Pallbearers were Adams Oates, Blaye Brasher, Larry Dubois, Hunter Hodges and Heath Hodges.
