CHARLESTON — James “Jamie” Claiborne Winters, age 78, of Charleston, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 26, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi.
Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Saturday, June 28, at Adam’s Arbor Church of God of Prophecy, where he was a member.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. at Adam’s Arbor Sunday, June 29, with interment following in the church cememtery. Womble Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
He was born July 13, 1946, to James J. Winters and Delorece Osbarn Winters.
Jamie lived a life full of deep love, generosity, and unwavering patriotism. He was a devoted family man who cherished time spent with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. His love for his family was the heartbeat of his life, and he never hesitated to offer a helping hand to anyone in need.
Jamie proudly served his country during Operation Iraqi Freedom, a reflection of his deep sense of duty and honor. His love for America was something he carried proudly every day of his life.
A gifted musician, Jamie brought joy to many with his guitar playing and singing. Whether gathered around with family and friends or sharing his talents in church, music was his way of connecting hearts and lifting spirits.
Known for his generosity and selflessness, Jamie was the kind of man who would give you the shirt off his back. He lived by example— quietly and consistently doing good for others without asking for anything in return. He leaves behind a legacy of love, music, service, and kindness that will never be forgotten.
Jamie is survived by his wife of 58 years, Mary Yvonne Winters; daughter, Vicki Sherman (Chris) of Charleston; and son, Stephen Winters (Lynn) of Scobey; six grandchildren, Audrey Hill (Justin), Stephen L. Winters (Anna), James T. Winters (Brooklyn), Carolyn Winters, Sarah Winters, Phillip J. Sherman, and five great-grandchildren, Gracie Hill, Samuel Winters, Adeline Winters, Madison Hill, Hayden Hill.
He is preceded by his parents, James Jay Winters and Delorice Osbarn Winters, and two grandchildren, Angel Sherman and Marianna Sherman.
Pallbearers are Stephen L. Winters, James T. Winters, Phillip Sherman, Justin Hill, Chris Sherman and Stacy Hargett.
Honorary pallbearers are Ronnie Eubanks, Robbie Venable, Julius Roe Taylor and William Miller.
