ROGERS, Ark. — Jesse Glen Wilkerson, Jr., known throughout his life as Glen, passed away on Sunday, May 17, at the age of 84.
A service celebrating Glen’s life will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, May 23, at Rogers First Church of the Nazarene in Rogers, Arkansas. Benton County Funeral Home of Rogers has charge of arrangements.
Glen was born on November 5, 1941, to Frances (Marshall) and Glen Wilkerson, Sr. and grew up in Sardis, Mississippi.
Professionally, he wore many hats. He was co-owner, then sole owner of Wilkerson Ford until he heard the call to ministry. After completing the remaining courses for his undergraduate business degree at Ole Miss, he received his Master of Divinity and Doctor of Ministry degrees from Oral Roberts University in Oklahoma.
He returned to Mississippi and served numerous Methodist churches over the next twenty years. Retiring from preaching, he worked as the administrator for an overseas missionary organization, and then (because he could never truly retire) he got his real estate license.
He was a jack of all trades and possessed a talent for figuring things out. From woodworking to golf, from cars to old westerns, his interests were as vast as his knowledge. He loved passing that knowledge on to others. In essence, he was a teacher – something that would have astonished his childhood classmates.
In March 1965, Glen married Claire, and together they shared 61 years of marriage, countless moves, and two wonderful children. Glen’s devotion to Claire and pride in Marshall and Kathleen could only be rivaled by the adoration he had for his grandchildren. Bryce, Kaitlin, and Paige brought out his playful side even more, and he was forever telling anyone who would listen about their latest triumphs.
Those who knew Glen will remember his dedication to ministry, his love for his family, and his inability to sit still. His was a full-throttle life, the impact of which was far and wide. His legacy of faith, service, and love will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched.
He is survived by his wife, Claire; his son, Marshall Wilkerson (Hope), and daughter Kathleen Holcomb; his grandchildren, Bryce Holcomb, Kaitlin Wilkerson (Chandler), and Paige Wilkerson; his brother, Robert Wilkerson; and many nieces and nephews.
