GREENVILLE — Jimmie Marshall Roberson passed away peacefully on August 9, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford, surrounded by his family after a battle with pancreatic cancer that he fought with courage, faith, strength, and dignity.
There will be a private family service for Marshall on Saturday, August 15, in Oxford. Per his wishes, a celebration of life gathering will be held in Oxford at a later date.
Marshall was born to Jimmie and Jane Roberson on October 5th 1956 in Charleston, Mississippi. He was an avid outdoorsman from an early age and a standout athlete at Strider Academy, where he played for the legendary coach Joe Bradshaw. Marshall earned a football scholarship to Northwest Mississippi Community College. He married the love of his life, Pat Rowland on June 18, 1977 and the two made their home in Greenville.
Marshall was a huge personality, some might say an acquired taste. He was loud, brash, and sometimes rough around the edges. But he was also genuine, honest, and unapologetically himself. He was simply Marshall. He was going to give you a nickname, and it probably wasn't going to be flattering. He was going to tell you the truth whether you wanted to hear it or not, and he was going to tell you he loved you. That was Marshall. The only thing bigger than his personality was his heart.
Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Pat; his two beloved sons, Rowland Roberson (Ann Chancellor) and Patrick Roberson (Claire), both of Oxford; and Clint Turman (Louise) whom Marshall helped raise and loved as his own; his seven grandchildren, whom he was fiercely proud of, Lillie Roberson, Rainey Roberson, Virginia Roberson, Jack Roberson, Lucy Roberson, Thomas and Rowland Turman; and a eighth grandchild on the way; his sisters, Amy Berry (Pete) and Becky Pettigrew (Al); and a host of friends all across the country.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Andy Roberson.
