Special to The Sun-Sentinel
Vinita Ray, a native of Charleston and local educator, will read her new book, “I Am Not a Gator,” during the Summer Reading Program at the Charleston Library Wednesday, July 10.
The book tells the story of Skater, a young crocodile, who is trying to convince his friends that he is not an alligator.
Ray was inspired to write the book by her passion to educate and teach the young.
She also shared, “My passion has always been in helping people, and learning new things, which is probably what stoked my desire to work with children.”
Ray earned a computer science degree from the University of Mississippi and is currently employed by the East Tallahatchie School District.
Her goal is to write and illustrate more books and to eventually produce screenplays.
Ray will read her book beginning at 10 a.m. on July 10 to kick off the Summer Reading Program for the month of July at the Charleston Library.
