CHARLESTON — Linda Gail Newsom van der Poel, age 75, passed away on Monday, August 10.
Visitation will be held on 2-4 p.m. Sunday, August 16, at Adams Arbor Church of God of Prophecy with funeral services following at 4 p.m. Bro. Phillip Pharr will officiate. Interment will be held in Adams Arbor Cemetery. Womble Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
Linda was born on May 10, 1951, in Butte, Montana, to the late Mildred Dickey Newsom and William Afton Newsom.
Linda devoted 31 years of her life to serving others as the Activity Director at the Tallahatchie General Hospital’s Extended Care Facility. She loved her work and enjoyed bringing happiness and activities to those in her care.
Outside of work, Linda loved spending time with her family. She enjoyed crocheting, embroidering, quilting, painting, drawing, and coloring. Her greatest joy was the time she shared with her children, grandchildren, and loved ones.
Linda is survived by her son, Joey van der Poel (Shannon) of Charleston; her daughter, Melissa van der Poel Hill (Todd) of Burns, Tenn.; and nine grandchildren, Cody van der Poel, Joseph Hill, Affie Griffin, Gabriel van der Poel, Lane van der Poel, Eleah Hill, Kylie Hill, Sheleigh van der Poel, and Kirah Thedford.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mildred Dickey Newsom and William Afton Newsom; and three brothers, Billy Mack Newsom, Don Newsom, and Daryl Newsom.
Pallbearers are Will Coker, JT Dickson, Blain Dickson, Jaxon Cook Steven Kendall and Adrian McCammon.
Honorary pallbearers are Cody van der Poel, Joseph Hill, Gabriel van der Poel and Lane van der Poel.
