JACKSON — The Charleston High School Tigers football team was recognized by the Mississippi House of Representatives on Tuesday, April 16.
State Rep. Tracey T. Rosebud of Tutwiler presented CHS head coach LaDon Taylor with House Resolution 76, introduced to the House Rules Committee by Rosebud, which congratulates the Tigers on winning the 2023 Class 2A state championship.
The full text of the resolution follows:
A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE CHARLES-TON HIGH SCHOOL “TIGERS” FOOTBALL TEAM AND HEAD COACH LADON TAYLOR FOR WINNING THE 2023 MISSISSIPPI HIGH SCHOOL ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATION 2A STATE FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP.
WHEREAS, the Charleston High School “Tigers” Football Team reigned supreme against Heidelberg High School at the 2023 Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) Class 2A State Football Championship at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium on the campus of the University of Mississippi, a truly outstanding achievement; and
WHEREAS, the Tigers defeated the Heidelberg High School Oilers with a score of 26-22, and it is the second state championship in the sport in school history, as the team’s first championship title was in 2011; and
WHEREAS, the Tigers were driven by more than just the yearning to succeed, and they intensely amplified all of their hard work and motivation, which were so apparent throughout the entire season, for the championship game; and
WHEREAS, Head Coach LaDon Taylor has superbly coached and inspired the Tigers and broadened their knowledge of the game while refining their skills in execution, and he continues to build upon the legacy of superior play and true sportsmanship forged by the tenacious and undaunted spirit of each team member, as evidenced in his ability to produce high caliber players and plays and by the team’s successful season; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and honor the achievements of student-athletes such as the Charleston High School “Tigers” Football Team, who have brought honor to their school, the City of Charleston and to the State of Mississippi:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Charleston High School “Tigers” Football Team and Head Coach LaDon Taylor for winning the Mississippi High School Activities Association 2A State Football Championship and extend best wishes for continued success in all their future endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the Charleston High School Football Team, Head Coach LaDon Taylor, and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
