We didn’t have them when I was growing up.
We didn’t have them when Gary and I were a young couple having our babies.
The reveal parties! The event where the couple expecting a baby finds out if they will have a boy or a girl!
Elaborate or simple, parents wait breathlessly to see the results expressed in pink or blue in all kinds of imaginative ways. Friends and family celebrate with them.
God had the first Great Big Reveal about His only Son, Jesus Christ, the Savior of all the people in the world through all time.
God started telling us about Jesus coming to us to defeat Satan in Genesis. After the fall, God told Satan in the presence of Adam and Eve: “I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring; he shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his heel.”
Wow! Jesus was with God and was God at the creation. Jesus’ birth to a virgin is clearly foretold or revealed in Isaiah 7:14, “Behold, a virgin shall be with child and bear a son, and she will call his name Immanuel.” Immanuel means God with us.
When God says in Genesis that “he will bruise your head,” He is revealing that Satan will be defeated by Jesus when he rises from death after his crucifixion and ascends to Heaven.
When God says to Satan, “and you shall bruise his heel,” God is revealing that Satan would attack Jesus on the cross, in His suffering and His death, until His resurrection victorious. Satan’s great assault on Jesus did not bring Jesus’ destruction, but Satan’s own downfall. Trying to defeat Jesus brought the opportunity of salvation to all mankind!
Satan will not defeat Jesus. Jesus will defeat Satan.
Multiple times in the Old Testament, prophecy reveals Jesus coming and what He will do.
For example: Isaiah 53:5 says, “But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon Him, and by His wounds we are healed.”
God tells us over and over in scripture through the prophets that His Son, Jesus Christ, is coming, and what he will suffer and accomplish in His time on Earth in a human body as God in the flesh, Jesus.
The bloody sacrifice, the agony of the cross, the acceptance of our sins put on Jesus who was sinless, the physical death, and the glory of the resurrection were no surprise to God and Jesus. All was foretold from the beginning!
Every animal sacrificed was a picture of the offering of Jesus’ holy life blood for our sins.
After His resurrection, Jesus’ body still bore the scars of the nails in his palms and the sword in His side: “Then He said to Thomas, ‘Reach here with your finger, and see My hands; and put out your hand and place it in My side. Do not be unbelieving, but (stop doubting and) believe.’ Thomas answered Him, ‘My Lord and my God!’ Jesus said to him, ‘Because you have seen Me, do you now believe’?” John 20:27-31.
If you have not believed in Jesus, you can ask Him to reveal Himself to you spiritually through the Holy Spirit, and accept Him and His free gift of salvation through your faith in Him and his Grace and Sacrifice.
