CHARLESTON —Bobby Joe “Joey” Brunson, Jr., age 54, passed away Monday, Dec. 11.
Visitation will be held from 12 noon to 2 p.m. today, Thursday, Dec. 14, at First Baptist Church in Charleston. The service immediately follow at 2 p.m., with interment following at the Charleston Cemetery.
Joey was born November 25, 1969, and was native and resident of Charleston.
Joey graduated from Charleston High School in 1987, afterwards attending Northwest Community College, Delta State University where he received a Bachelor’s Degree in accounting and Mississippi State University where he received his Master’s Degree in business administration. He was employed by Tallahatchie General Hospital for 28 years. He began his career as Assistant Administrator and currently held the Chief Financial Officer position.
To know Joey was to love him. He was the most giving, supportive, caring, compassionate soul who loved with all his heart. His love for his boys was immeasurable and he lived his life for them. He was his boys’ best friend, confidant, and mentor. His love for his family and friends was overwhelming. He devoted his career to TGH and helped to build the hospital into what it is today. He was the lighthouse to his family, friends, community and especially his family at TGH. He loved to cook and share with family and friends. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Charleston.
Joey is survived by his two sons, Joseph Tyler Brunson (Jenny) and Justin Hughes Brunson (Destiny) both of Charleston; a special friend, Dusty Henson, of Greenville; his mother, Olivia Brunson of Charleston; his sister, Lynn Brunson Higginbotham (Scott) of Brandon; three nieces Jessica Foreman (Steven), Ashley Surles (Bret) and Brittany Brunson (J.T.)
He was preceded in death by his father, Bobby Joe Brunson, Sr.; brother, David Powell Brunson; his grandparents, WT and Geneva Brunson and Henry “Smokey” and Martha Jane Wood, all of Charleston.
Pallbearers are Alan O’Quin, Eugene Anderson, Jack Borg, Jim Blackwood, Buddy McRae and Drew Weissinger
Honorary pallbearers are Tracy Davis, Randy Davis and the TGH Board of Directors.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests any memorials be made to the First Baptist Church or TGH Medical Foundation.
