OAKLAND — Paul Adams Williams, Jr., affectionately known as “Hoppy,” passed away Monday, June 17, at his home.
A celebration of life service was held at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 20, at First Baptist Church in Charleston with interment following in Broom Cemetery near Coffeeville. Seven Oaks Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
Being born in Water Valley, Hoppy graduated from Yalobusha Academy in 1976. He attended Northwest Community College and then transferred to Hinds Community College and earned his degree as an electrician under the careful teachings of his Uncle Fred.
Hoppy specialized in his craft as a lineman, a profession he held at Tallahatchie Valley Electric Power Association for an impressive 43 years until his retirement in 2023.
He is survived in life by his loving wife of 16 years, Cathy Williams; his children, Jarrett, Andy (Amanda), Sarah (Timmy), Melanie (Charlie); five granddaughters, Aubree, Ella, Averee Jo, Neely and Hannah; and 3 great-grandchildren, Reece, Lila and Braxton.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Thelma Williams; and his half-sister, Peggy Lewis.
When not working Hoppy loved hunting, and keeping up his land to hunt, and he loved spending time with his family.
The family requests memorial contributions be made in Hoppy's honor to the National Cancer Society, St Jude's Children's Hospital or Broom Cemetery in Coffeeville.
