SWAN LAKE — Mr. Richard Flautt, 57, of Swan Lake, passed away Sunday, Jan. 22.
Funeral services were held 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 27, at Sumner Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Dr. Ann Laird Jones officiating. Interment followed in Woodlawn Cemetery at Sumner.
He was born May 3, 1965 in Greenwood to William Gay and Sara Buehler Flautt. Richard was a graduate of Pillow Academy in Greenwood and Mississippi Delta Community College. He considered his friends as family.
He was widely known throughout the backroads of Tallahatchie County. He was a Blues enthusiast and loved spending time with acquaintances at blues festivals throughout Mississippi and Arkansas. He was a moderator for the Chicago Blues Society on Facebook, with thousands of followers.
He collected arrowheads and artifacts along the Tallahatchie and Sunflower rivers, as well as blues memorabilia. He loved animals and they responded to his gentleness, especially his beloved Furry Lewis.
He was the youngest of a large family of nine children, eight brothers and one sister. As a young man he was rather scrawny, but surprisingly strong. He had the memory of spending long summer days as a boy riding his bicycle with his brothers and other children around the bayous and dusty cotton fields surrounding an idyllic Glendora, Mississippi. He is loved and will be dearly missed.
He is survived by his siblings, Billy Flautt of Oxford, Bob Flautt (Lisa) of Webb, Michael Flautt of Albin, David Flautt (Teresa) of Oxford, Stephen Flautt (Jennifer) of Webb, Sara Flautt Wilson (Geoff) of Glendora and Andrew Flautt (Crystal) of Grenada.
