OAKLAND — Steve Warren Sanders, age 51, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 22.
A memorial service was held 2 p.m. Saturday Dec. 2, in the Martin Willingham Memorial Chapel of Wells Funeral Home.
Born March 19, 1972 in Charleston, Steve was the son of the late Millard Filmore Sanders and the late Bonnie Gail Alexander.
A 1990 graduate of Charleston High School, he went on to continue his education at Delta State University where he earned his BS in Biology in 1994. He worked at the State Crime Lab as a drug analyst for 17 years. On Aug. 13, 1993, he married the love of his life, April Sanders, and together they were blessed with two wonderful sons.
Steve had a five year battle with cancer and fought through numerous health issues until the end. Through the good times and the bad, he never questioned for faltered in his faith in God. He praised God no matter what.
Steve’s smile and sense of humor were infections. Many times he would be getting up hay and/or tending cows, fixing fences, or piddling around the house. He loved spending time with his family and grandchildren. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and he loved to cook and grill. He was a handyman and could figure out a way to fix anything that needed fixing. He raised his two boys to have moral values and be gentlemen. He was, and is, a blessing to his family, and they will cherish his memory in their hearts forever.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife, April Sanders of Oakland; two sons, Bradley Sanders (Kristina) of Monette, Ark. and Colson Sanders of Oakland; one brother, Randy Sanders (Ciji) of Oakland; two grandchildren, Emerson Sanders and Ella Sanders; and a host of nieces, nephews and other family and friends.
