CHARLESTON — Vicki Lynn Bradley Lavender was born in Jackson on January 15, 1951, to James Harold and Marcella Bradley. She attended Alta Woods Baptist Church, while growing up in Jackson. She often spoke of the memories of spending time with her daddy. For instance, him taking her to church and accompanying him to his auto salvage. The latter is where she learned the make and model of all vehicles. She was recognized by the local paper for this unique ability at the young age of 5.
When her daddy became ill with ALS, she became his number one caregiver next to her mom. After he passed, Vicki and her mother moved to Charleston for her to attend her senior year. That is where she met David, her life-long companion. Later, David and Vicki were to elope to Livingston, Alabama.
Vicki is survived by her husband of 54 years, David Lavender; their 3 daughters, Cindy Burch (Damon Stroud), Laura Kathryn ‘Kaky’ Tindle (Sheriff Tom Tindle) and Merideth Pope (Rev. Terry Pope); grandchildren, Carlee Burch, Molly Tindle Linton (Derek), Trey Tindle, Trent Tindle, Marlee Tindle, Haylee McGregory (Mitch) and Rylee Towles (Gabe); 6 great-grandchildren; sister, Dixie Bradley Franks of Tulsa, Okla.; sister-in-law, Marilyn Cook of Jacksonville, Fla.; brother-in-law, Jim Lavender (Maxine) of Collierville, Tenn.; and 3 generations of nieces and nephews.
Vicki was preceded in death by her parents, James Harold Bradley, Marcella Faulkner Bradley Thomason, brother, James Harold ‘Jim’ Bradley, Jr. and sister, Sandra Bradley Bishop.
Vicki spent most of her married years as a housewife, raising her three girls. She was dedicated to her family by love, strength, and instilling resilience. She kept her circle small, but she loved BIG!
Vicki was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2004, and was a survivor for 14 years. In 2020, her breast cancer returned and metastasized to the bone. Over the last 4 years, she has taught her family even more about unconditional love, the importance of prayer, putting others first, and just how far faith can take you.
She was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Charleston.
