TIPPO — William G. “Bitsy” Murphey, age 91, passed away Tuesday, May 21, 2024, at his home.
Funeral services were 11 a.m. Thursday, May 23, at Tippo Methodist Church with interment following at Tippo Methodist Cemetery. Womble Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
He was born in Tippo on January 10, 1933, to the late A.G. Murphey, Sr., and Garner Sosebee Murphey. He was a member of Tippo Methodist Church.
Bitsy grew up in Tippo, Ms. He graduated from Charleston High School. He was a member of the United States Army and later became a farmer. Bitsy loved spending time with his family and enjoyed fishing and hunting in his spare time.
He is survived by three daughters, Debbie Murphey of Tippo, Melinda Aven of Tippo, and Ida Jo Brooks of Tippo; two sons, Roger Murphey of Tippo and Lacy Murphey (Sharon) of Tippo; two sisters, Linda Deloach and Coleen Albright; nine grandchildren, Greg Murphey, Calen Murphey (Bethany), Will Murphey, AnnaKay Murphey, Allison Aven Lee (Buddy), Jacquelyn Brooks Pilgreen (Jim Tom), John Christopher “Bubba” Brooks and Jaden Brooks; great-grandchildren, Madalyn Murphey Hollis (Brian), Bailey Murphey, Mason Murphey, Zoey Murphey, Charlie Jane Murphey, Sophie Murphey, Avery Claire Lee, Aven Kate Lee, Addy Reece Lee, Stella James Pilgreen; and great-great-grandchildren, Weslynn Tate Hollis and Everly Mae Hollis; and a host of other family and friends.
Bitsy is preceded in death by his parents, A. G. Murphey, Sr., and Garner Sosebee Murphey, his wife of 60 years, Minnie Clare Allison Murphey; a grandson, Dale Murphey; a sister, Betty Ann Knight and three brothers, A. G. Murphey, Jr., Joseph R. Murphey and Julian S. Murphey.
Pallbearers were Greg Murphey, Calen Murphey, Will Murphey, Bubba Brooks, Buddy Lee, Jim Tom Pilgreen, John Steele Murphey and Brian Hollis.
Honorary pallbearers were Clarence Strider, Jimmy Mabus, George Jenings, Julian Allison, John Dixon, Gary Albright and Mike Clark.
