A $1,000 scholarship will be awarded by the Birdia Keglar Legacy to a female student who resides in Tallahatchie County and will graduate from Charleston High School or West Tallahatchie High School in May 2023 or a female student currently enrolled in a post high school institution and can provide proof of enrollment.
All applicants must embody the spirit of Birdia Keglar through displayed leadership ability in school and through community activism. The BK Legacy Scholarship Committee will require a completed scholarship application, transcript, ACT/SAT scores and two letters of recommendation — one from a principal, counselor or teacher and one from a community leader. Also required is a two-page essay, typed and double spaced on the topic of “How I embody the attributes of Birdia Keglar through leadership abilities and community involvement.”
Applications may be received from Charleston High School and West Tallahatchie High School or may be requested by contacting one of the individuals whose number is listed below. The complete packet of information must be received by May 1. Mail to Birdia Keglar Legacy Scholarship Committee, Post Office Box 222, Charleston, MS 38921.
The recipient will be announced at high school graduation, if a current high school student. The scholarship will be awarded at the 2023 Birdia Keglar Legacy Celebration, to be held on Saturday, June 3.
The planning committee looks forward to all who will attend this year’s tribute. Details about the celebration will follow in coming weeks.
