CenterPoint Energy’s Community Safety Grant program has awarded the city of Charleston with a grant of $2,500 to be used to purchase safety-related equipment.
Mayor Sedrick Smith met with several CenterPoint Energy representatives during a brief ceremony Monday, June 17, at Charleston City Hall.
“The Community Safety Grant program offers an opportunity for CenterPoint Energy to invest in the cities we serve,” the utility noted in a statement. “For over 145 years, we have partnered with communities supporting our shared commitment to safety while delivering safe, reliable natural gas.”
Since 2003, according to the utility, the grant program has awarded more than $3 million in donations and provided funding to support over 1,000 projects in communities throughout its service area.
“Through the grant program, we are able to help cities leverage local funds to purchase needed safety equipment or support safety projects that are important to [the] community,” the statement added.
