The National Weather Service in Memphis has issued a Freeze Warning from midnight tonight until 9 a.m. Tuesday, and from 9 p.m. Tuesday until 9 a.m. Wednesday, for Tallahatchie and several other counties in North Mississippi.
According to NWS, the Mississippi counties included in the warnings are Calhoun, Coahoma, Lafayette, Panola, Pontotoc, Prentiss, Quitman, Tallahatchie, Tishomingo, Union and Yalobusha, including the cities of Batesville, Booneville, Bruce, Calhoun City, Charleston, Clarksdale, Coffeeville, Iuka, Marks, New Albany, Oxford, Pontotoc and Water Valley.
A temperature as low as 32 is expected Monday night into Tuesday morning, while subfreezing temperatures as low as 27 are anticipated Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.
NWS said frost and freeze conditions will kill crops, other sensitive vegetation and possibly damage unprotected outdoor plumbing.
Water intended for outdoor pets and livestock could freeze, making it inaccessible.
Take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold. To prevent freezing and possible bursting of outdoor water pipes, they should be wrapped, drained or allowed to drip slowly. Those that have in-ground sprinkler systems should drain them and cover above-ground pipes to protect them from freezing.
