Revival continues at Cross of Christ
Dr. Johnny Blunt continues a three-night revival which began March 20 and continues Thursday, March 21, and Friday, March 22, at 6 o’clock nightly, at the Cross of Christ Love Center in Charleston. Everyone is invited.

The Charleston Arts Center (CARE building) will host a ladies’ paint night class on Friday, March 22, starting at 5:30 p.m. All supplies are furnished and refreshments are provided. Rocky Branch to honor pastor, wife
Rocky Branch Missionary Baptist Church near Charleston will honor the 28th anniversary of service of pastor Willie Davis and his wife, minister Patricia Davis, Sunday, March 24, with morning and afternoon services.
Sunday school will start at 10 a.m., followed by morning service at 11 with pastor Lawrence Cole of Memphis as guest speaker.
The afternoon service will begin at 3 p.m. with the Liberty Church and pastor James Glover of Coldwater as guests.
St. Luke tells of annual choir day
St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church will host annual choir day on Sunday, March 24, at 2 p.m. The public is invited to attend.

Holy Week service schedule unveiled
Charleston First Methodist Church will host traditional Holy Week services from Monday, March 25, through Friday, March 29, beginning at noon each day. Speakers are:

Extension hosts respirator fit test
The Tallahatchie County Extension Service in Charleston will facilitate respirator fit tests Tuesday, March 26, from 8:30 a.m. until 4 p.m.
The cost is $90 per person.
Participants must call 662-647-8746 for an appointment; are asked to bring their own respirator mask if they have it; and are requested to come clean shaven, if possible.

Teasdale bake sale to benefit facility
On Saturday, March 30, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m., the Teasdale Ladies Auxiliary and Teasdale Quilters will have a bake sale at the Auxiliary building, just in time for Easter.
All proceeds will go to the upkeep on the Teasdale building fund.

Charleston Mayor’s Charity Ball set
The eighth Charleston Mayor’s Charity Ball will be held Saturday, March 30, beginning at 6 p.m., in Alford’s Gym on the campus of Charleston Middle School.
Tickets are $40 and may be purchased at Charleston City Hall and the CARE building.
The Charity Ball, benefiting the American Cancer Society, features a buffet-style meal catered by Joann Hoskins of Tutwiler, a culinary arts instructor at Coahoma Community College, as well as a formal program.
Local band SLASH and Charles “CC” Carter of Petal will entertain.

Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church of Enid will present the musical, “There’s Still Power in the Blood,” at 7 a.m. on Easter morning, March 31. The service will encourage all who come. Breakfast fellowship will follow.

Cedric Terry will address Rotarians
Guest speaker for the Wednesday, April 3, meeting of the Charleston Rotary Club will be Cedric Terry of Charleston. Terry will discuss his plans for youth baseball leagues this summer. Lunch begins at noon, with Terry to speak at the conclusion of the meal.
Final day for CARE student entries
Wednesday, April 3, is the final day to submit entries for the Student Art Show and Contest at CARE. Prize money and ribbons will be given to the winners.

Recovery center sets grand opening
Charleston Recovery Center, a division of God’s House of Hope, will be having its grand opening on Friday, April 5, at 5 p.m.

Locopolis sets women’s conference
Locopolis Missionary Baptist Church, located at 4947 Highway 32 Central, Charles-ton, will host their inaugural women’s conference on Saturday, April 6, from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. The theme is “Encouraging Ourselves and Encouraging Each Other,” and the scripture reference is Psalm 94:18-19.
Guest speakers will include evangelist Loretta Bryant, first lady Dr. Bennie Braggs and Charleston Ward 4 Alderwoman Sandy Frieson Smith. A free lunch will be served and health checks will be available, said Tina Thornton, conference sponsor. Rev. Christopher R. Thornton is the Locopolis pastor.

ACS Rally for a Cure to be held
Rally for a Cure, the annual community fundraiser of the Tallahatchie County unit of the American Cancer Society, will be held Saturday, April 13, from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m., at the former National Guard armory in Charleston.
The event will feature a variety of activities, including booths, games and entertainment.

Players, coaches sought for ball
Terry’s Sports Academy in Charleston is looking for players, coaches and sponsors for its summer softball and baseball program.
Registration is ongoing. The cost is $100 per child, and the program is open to boys and girls, ages 5-13 years, in Tallahatchie County, Oakland and the surrounding area.

GriefShare support group ongoing
GriefShare, a grief recovery support group that began Tuesday, March 12, will conduct weekly sessions each Tuesday from 6-7:30 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Charleston.
GriefShare is a video series that features some of the nation’s foremost Christian experts on grief and recovery topics as seen from a biblical perspective. The video seminars are combined with support group discussion of the materials presented in the video.
These 13-week sessions include topics such as “Is this Normal?” “The Challenges of Grief,” “Grief and Your Relationships,” “Why?”, “Guilt and Anger” and more.

ECF ‘memory board’ available
The Tallahatchie General Hospital Extended Care Facility Auxiliary is sponsoring an honor and memory board display outside the activities room of the facility. The names of present and past nursing home residents and sponsors will be posted on the board for public view for an annual $25 donation.

These donations will be deposited into the Auxiliary’s bank account to use for personal assistance to the residents and for special activity projects. Public support is appreciated.
Charleston Day scholarship offered
The National Charleston Day Organization announces its annual scholarship initiative.
Charleston High School graduating seniors this May and students currently enrolled as freshman in an institution of higher learning are eligible to apply. Applicants must provide a completed packet of information to include personal information, transcript, ACT/SAT scores, GPA calculations, acceptance document from school of choice, two references (one from a counselor, principal or teacher, another from a community representative), and a 500-word essay on future goals and how the applicant will work to enhance the community.
Completed applications must be postmarked by May 1 and mailed to National Charleston Day Organization, Scholarship Committee, P.O. Box 763, Charleston, MS 38921.
Applications are available at Charleston High School or by calling Gwen Dailey, NCDO scholarship chairperson, at 662-609-6701.
Keglar scholarship available
The Birdia Keglar Legacy will award its annual scholarship this year during the June 1 local holiday community celebration.
The scholarship is available to female students of Charleston High School and West Tallahatchie High School. The applicant must be a graduating senior or currently enrolled at an institution of higher learning.
An application packet including personal information, name of school applied to or currently attending and in good standing, transcript, ACT/SAT scores, GPA calculations, two reference letters (one from counselor, academic advisor, principal or teacher and one from a community representative) and a 500-word essay on “How I embody the spirit of Mrs. Birdia Keglar through community service and activism” must be postmarked by May 1 and mailed to Birdia Keglar Legacy Scholarship Committee, Post Office Box 222, Charleston, MS 38921

Correction or clarification
The district attorney’s office recently contacted the Tallahatchie County circuit clerk’s office for court files about a 1981 grave disturbance case. An account appearing in a March 14 story in The Sun-Sentinel could have been interpreted otherwise.
