Despite the ongoing federal government shutdown, on Oct. 21 U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins announced that local Farm Service Agency (FSA) county offices would be opening with a limited staff to assist with the disbursement of October payments for 2024 ARC/PLC.
Those payments are based on prices received for 2024 crops during the marketing period that ended recently.
As of Oct. 23, the local county offices of FSA are open for business.
"While that business would be limited to certain things, one was the release of payments due to farmers and landowners in October 2025," Tallahatchie County FSA Executive Director David Groner said Monday.
Groner noted that as of Monday, Oct. 27, "the number of FSA programs open is very limited."
"It has been stated that the administration's goal is to get 2024 ARC/PLC payments issued during the week of Oct. 27, hopefully followed by 2025 CRP annual rental payments," Groner explained. "Bottom line, the Tallahatchie County FSA office is open for business for the first time since Oct 1, 2025."
