CASCILLA — Brenda Kay Smith Turner, 62, of Cascilla, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 26, at the University of Mississippi Medical Center – Jackson.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 29, at Cascilla Baptist Church with Rev. Mark Moore and Rev. Jason Smith officiating. Interment will follow in the New Smith Cemetery at Cascilla. The family will receive friends from 5–7 p.m. Thursday evening and one hour prior to the service Friday, all at Cascilla Baptist Church.
She was born Aug. 31, 1959 in Charleston to Clinton Edward and Elizabeth Carpenter Smith. She had worked for a number of years as a bookkeeper at Sunflower Grocery Stores and most recently owned and operated Rock’s Kudzu Grill at Cascilla.
Brenda was instrumental in founding “Cascilla Day” and “Christmas in the Kudzu” and was always looking for a way to make the community she called home a better place.
Survivors include her husband, Sloan Turner; daughters, Jamie Kay Ellett (Brent) of Oakland, Marla Davis of Rosebloom and Leigh Bland of Oakland; one son, Jason McKinney of Oakland; one brother, Clinton Smith (Shelby) of Coffeeville; two grandchildren, Madison Wall (Jacob Hoop) of Grenada and Matthew Wall of Oxford; and two great-grandchildren, Mabry Hoop and Hallie Ruth Hoop.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Dennis and Willie Smith.
