The James C. Kennedy Wellness Center and community partners are coming together to support mothers, children, and families in our community through the Healthy Moms, Happy Families Maternal & Child Health Event on Tuesday, Sept. 22, from 3-6 p.m. at the James C. Kennedy Wellness Center in Charleston.
The event is designed especially for expecting mothers, new mothers and parents of young children and will bring health services, education, clothing, supplies and community resources together in one convenient location.
Families attending the event will have access to free health screenings, including blood pressure, A1c and glucose screenings as well as information about local programs and services available to support mothers and young children. Gently worn children’s and maternity clothing will also be available, along with baby and family items, new baby clothing, books, educational resources, refreshments, gifts and door prizes.
Most importantly, the afternoon is intended to be a welcoming and supportive environment where families can learn more about the resources available to them and connect with organizations that care about the health and well-being of mothers and children in our community.
Community Clothing Donations Needed
Community members can help make the event even more meaningful by donating new or gently used clothing that can be shared with local families during the event.
We are requesting donations for:
• Gently used children’s clothing of all sizes
• Baby and children’s shoes
• Children’s jackets and coats
• Baby blankets
• Maternity clothing
Items should be clean and in good condition so they can be passed along to another family and enjoyed.
Donations may be dropped off at the James C. Kennedy Wellness Center Monday through Friday from 5 a.m. until 7 p.m. or Saturday from 8 a.m. until 12 noon.
If your children have outgrown clothes, shoes, jackets or other items that are still in great condition, this is a wonderful opportunity to give those items a new home while helping another family in our community.
The event is part of a larger community effort to provide expecting mothers and families with young children with access to health screenings, educational information, local resources, clothing and essential baby items.

We invite new and expecting mothers, fathers, grandparents, caregivers and parents of young children to join us on Sept. 22. Come take advantage of the free screenings, learn about resources available in our area, pick up items your family may need, enjoy refreshments and connect with others in the community.
Together, we can help give mothers, babies and young children in our community a healthier start and remind families that they have a community ready to support them.
