Mississippi Valley State’s football team has been banned from postseason play for the second consecutive year, according to the NCAA’s 2024-2025 Academic Progress Rate report released this week.
The program was assessed a Level 2 penalty, which includes in season and out of reason restrictions.
APR, which was implemented in 2003, is a metric used by the NCAA to track the academic success and the eligibility of student-athletes over time. Teams must have an APR score of at least 930 to stay penalty free.
Valley’s football team produced an APR of 894. Their total in 2023-2024 was 904. MVSU declined to comment on the rates.
The Delta Devils went 2-10 in 2025 under first-year coach Terrell Buckley, with wins over Lincoln (California) and Florida A&M.
Four other SWAC football programs did not reach the 930 multi-year rate. Alabama A&M and Florida A&M were also hit with postseason bans for the upcoming season.
The men’s track team at Valley, which had a postseason ban for 2024-2025, was not assessed a penalty for next season. Its 2024-2025 APR was 906.
