The Nation's Weather for Wednesday, August 17, 2022
_____
NATIONAL SUMMARY
A storm system will begin developing off the Atlantic coast
tomorrow, possibly forming into a summer nor'easter as it
strengthens. Steady and locally heavy rain is likely for
much of Atlantic Canada, Maine and coastal portions of
southern New England. Along the coasts, persistent gusty
winds can lead to beach erosion in some spots. Farther
south, rounds of rain and thunderstorms along a stalled
front may turn heavy at times, and can lead to localized
flooding in spots that have prolonged periods of rain. In
locations such as the southern Appalachians, runoff can
easily funnel into narrow valleys and streams, leading to
rapid rises in water levels. A surge of tropical moisture
will lead to increased storm coverage in Arizona and New
Mexico, with heat continuing across the Northwest states.
