The National Weather Service has issued a Tornado Watch for Tallahatchie and 18 other counties in North Mississippi.
The watch was issued at 12:50 p.m. and is set to expire at 10 Thursday night (April 3).
It covers Alcorn, Benton, Calhoun, Coahoma, Desoto, Lafayette, Lee, Marshall, Panola, Pontotoc, Prentiss, Quitman, Tallahatchie, Tate, Tippah, Tishomingo, Tunica, Union and Yalobusha counties.
In addition, a Flood Watch remains in effect through Sunday morning.
The NWS says "generational rainfall amounts" of up to 8 inches are expected to fall across parts of the Mid-South, noting that excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks. Extensive street flooding and flooding of creeks and rivers are possible.
