CHARLESTON — Albert Curtis Jr., age 76, passed away Sunday, March 29.
Graveside services were held 12 p.m. Thursday, Apri 2, at the Descendants of Albert and Alma Curtis Family Cemetery in Charleston. A “final call” was given by the Charleston Fire Department. Community Funeral Directors had charge of arrangements.
A plumber by trade, he was employed by the Charleston Water Department and City of Charleston for over 55 years. He was a member of the Charleston Fire Department for over 50 years. He was a member of William’s Lodge No. 77, and was a member of Boclair Drive Church of Christ. He was name the Gateway to the Delta Festival’s first “Hometown Hero.”
He was preceded in death by a son, Curtis Curtis.
He is survived by his wife, Alma “Emma” Jean Blackburn Curtis; his children, Joe W. Blackburn of Fairbanks, Ak., James Albert Curtis of Oakland, Noble Lavelle Curtis of Charleston, Chas Michelle Smith of Huntsville, Ala., and Deborah Jean Curtis-Wren of Charleston. three sisters, and a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
