POPE — Clifton Perry “Rooster” Arnold, age 79, formerly of Charleston passed away Saturday, March 5, at his home.
Funeral services were scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 8, at Charleston First Baptist Church with Rev. John Price and Rev. Joe Young officiating. Interment with military honors followed at Liberty Hill Cemetery at Pope with Rev. Derrick Simmons officiating. Womble Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
He was born in Sardis on Aug. 12, 1936 to William Melvin Arnold, Sr. and Hazel Goforth Arnold.
He was a member of Liberty Hill Baptist Church. He was retired and was a former Tallahatchie General Hospital security guard and a former city commissioner, and long-time volunteer fire-fighter for the Charleston Fire Department. He was a Korean Air Force veteran.
He is survived by his wife, Marilyn Morris Arnold of Pope; three daughters, Penny Arnold Goodwin (Ben) of Pope, Paula Arnold of Charleston, Pamela Arnold Cole (Tim) of Paynes; a sister, Sarah Doss Thomas of Hernando; a brother, William Melvin Arnold Jr. of Sherwood, Ark.; 9 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Michael Doss, Steven Doss, Monty Gordon, Shane McCown, Michael Morris and William Morris.
Honorary pallbearers were members of the Fire Department.
