CHARLESTON — Donald J. Greer, age 78, passed away Wednesday, March 16, in Oxford.
Funeral services were 2:30 p.m. Saturday, March 19, at First Baptist Church in Charleston with interment following in Friendship East Baptist Cemetery. Newsom Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
Mr. Greer was retired owner of Don’s Auto & Tractor parts in Tutwiler. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Charleston, served five years in the U.S. Marine Corp, was a lifetime member of Marine Corp League and a member of American Legion in Clarksdale. He was a member of Who’s Who of Mississippi, where he was inducted in 1974; was a graduate of Charleston High School, class of 1956, and a retired employee of the Tallahatchie County Sheriff’s Department since 2014.
He is survived by his sons, Jeff L. Greer of Oakland and Tim (Angel) Nickens of Senatobia; daughter-in- law, Connie Greer of Charleston; 6 grandchildren: Austin (Brooke) Greer of Coahoma County, Katie Greer of Charleston, Morgan Greer of Charleston, Garrett Nickens of Senatobia, Madison Nickens of Senatobia and Anna Nickens of Senatobia; and 2 great-grandchildren, Ava Raines Greer and Aubrey Elizabeth Greer.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Sue Robinson Greer; his parents, Garnett Lee and Katherine Elizabeth Greer; a son, Donald W. Greer; and brother, Bobby L. Greer
