TILLATOBA — J.R. “Jimmy” Dukes, Jr., age 72, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 20, at his home.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 24, at McKibben and Guinn Funeral Service in Grenada with Rev. Mike Ramage officiating. Private burial followed in the Scobey Cemetery.
He was born Oct. 15, 1948 in Washington County to James Robert, Sr. and Maurine Knox Dukes.
Jimmy was the owner and operator of J.R. Dukes Trucking, LLC for 47 years. He was a member of Southside Baptist Church in Washington County.
While coon hunting was among his many hobbies, his greatest joy came from being a constant encourager and supporter of his family. While we find comfort today in knowing he has met the author and finisher of his faith, our hearts remain heavy for the void his absence will leave. Jimmy didn’t simply pass away, he held in his soul the cure to death, a relationship with Jesus.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Diane Dukes; one daughter, Terri Dukes of Tillatoba; five sons, John Dukes (Kathy) of Tillatoba, Bubba Dukes of Tillatoba, Dale Dukes (Shannon) of Scobey, Patrick Dukes (Angela) of Tillatoba and Junior Dukes of Tillatoba; one brother, Albert Dukes of Greenville; 15 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Virginia Blade and a brother, Billy Dukes.
Pallbearers were Jimmy Dukes, John E. Dukes, Junior Dukes, Waylon Dukes, Bryan Hollis and Jake Rose.
