Gov. Tate Reeves and his leading health adviser, Dr. Thomas Dobbs, are saying that if people will just behave for the next two weeks — that is, wear masks, social distance and not go to parties — Mississippi can turn the corner on COVID-19.
That’s wishful thinking.
The past month has amply demonstrated what’s likely to happen. There may be a temporary lull, but the virus will spike again as people get more comfortable moving around. That’s going to be the pattern until one of two things happens: a vaccine is discovered or herd immunity is achieved, whichever comes first.
