Now that the primary election season is behind us, all attention focuses on the stretch run to the Nov. 5 general election.
Most local Tallahatchie County political races were settled during the primaries, but there are several countywide and county district seats that await the final countdown. Even more statewide and state district positions will require the voters’ action in about two months.
A paltry 34 percent of Tallahatchie County’s registered voters bothered to weigh in during the Aug. 27 runoffs — which means 66 of every 100 did not — but one has to anticipate that the voter turnout for November will be much greater.
At least, one hopes it will be.
By now we should be numb to the overwhelmingly lackadaisical, apathetic attitude that so many people exhibit toward the voting process. However, we never cease to be amazed, and disappointed.
