Editor, Sun-Sentinel:
To our Charleston, Miss., family, we are honored and humbled by the recent naming of a portion of the road in front of Charleston Middle School in memory of our father, David Alford.
The naming of the road as the David Alford Memorial Road is appreciated more than words can adequately express.
We want to express a special thank you to the Tallahatchie County Board of Supervisors for the honor. Additionally, we appreciate the chancery clerk of the Board of Supervisors, Ms. Anita Greenwood, and Mr. Alvin Johnson for their efforts to make the naming ceremony special for the family.
We would also be remiss if we did not express our appreciation to Ms. Gwen Daily, the Charleston Day Club and City Commissioner Dorothy Brown for their efforts in honor of our father. Last, but not least, we appreciate friends, family and neighbors who shared the ceremony with us through their attendance.
During Daddy’s career as a teacher and principal, he was passionately committed to providing the resources necessary to ensure that students were able to reach toward higher education and succeed.
We do not believe that he ever thought of accolades for his work and commitment to his hometown, but as his family, we ask you to accept our heartfelt thanks and gratitude.
