A friend and I were sitting on the porch the other day and just reminiscing and talking about things we really loved to experience. There are so many things and events and fascinations that I find irresistible.
I love first born puppies. I remember when my daughter’s bulldog, Rosie, had her first litter. I found them in a closet underneath a pile of clothes. They were so tiny in comparison to the mama of 100 pounds. She accidentally sat on two of the four so only two of the dachshund/Boston bulldog mix survived.
I love overflowing springs exploding from deep in the earth bringing forth clean, cold, ever-refreshing clear water. We used to pass by one of these wonders on our way to my grandmother’s house and we would always stop and fill several jugs to carry home with us.
I love visiting old cemeteries and reading the unusual names on the old tombstones and looking for my ancestors.
I love writing stories and painting, one so close “kinned” to the other. I pick up a brush full of paint, no matter the color, possibly to paint a pasture landscape, and by the final brush stroke, it’s nothing like I first envisioned or anticipated.
I sit down at my computer to write a column or short story and it’s as if something ethereal takes over the movement of my fingers as they fly over the keys writing the thoughts that fill my mind, never knowing what the final strokes of the keys will leave on paper.
I love talking to my grandchildren on the phone and hearing that first “Hello Meme” come from the other end of the line and always the “I love you” at the ending.
I am so very passionate about cooking and trying out my new “novelty recipes and formulas.” I almost remind myself of a scientist as I add this and that and conjure a new taste. Bless his heart, my husband is always the recipient of this food potpourri, and he is very compliant to try the new foodstuffs. Sometimes he does ask me, “Now what is this dish made from?”
As for the things I don’t like, there are very few, especially foodstuffs. I’ve always said if it’s not moving away from me, I’ll try it. To tell you my main peeve and irritation would be insincere people, those with two faces. I don’t care for the false face.
And I love chocolate! Bombshell brownies:
1 cup of melted butter
3 cups of sugar
3 T. vanilla extract
4 eggs
1½ cups self-rising flour
1 cup of cocoa powder
1 cup semisweet chocolate chips.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees and lightly spray a 9x13 pan with cooking spray. Combine the melted butter into the eggs and mix well. Add remaining ingredients and blend until smooth. Pour into prepared dish and bake 35-40 minutes.
