Here we are in time with the “Devil’s holiday” — Halloween. I have some conflicting and differing thoughts about this holiday.
When our children were growing up, we never celebrated the holiday with any paranormal, eerie or unearthly thoughts. We never acclaimed nor observed any kind of “devil worship” or sacrifices.
As a matter of fact, our children never knew that those observances or celebrations existed.
They just were excited to dress as one of their favorite characters, usually a superhero for our boys and a little witch or princess for our little girl. Did she know about witches? No. We never taught our kids about the evils in the world until they were mature enough to fully understand the consequences. She just knew she was dressing up and going door-to-door to pretend play and to fill her trick-or-treat bag with candy.
I have an acquaintance in my Facebook friends who preaches about how bad we are to allow this kind of role play. He asked me if I knew of all the sacrifices that were made to the evil one on Halloween night in every capital of every city in our country.
Well, no I don’t. I asked him to expound on this, but he said he was not here to explain the Bible to me. I need to know what he believes about the sacrifices and that they are so many on this one given night. I am not saying he is telling an untruth. I’m saying that he needs to back up this strong statement.
If you are to censure plans of the people for what you believe is wrong, then provide evidence to your counsel so that we all can make an informed decision.
I am also not telling you I don’t believe in evil persons, because if you will turn on your televisions you will see and hear of many sacrifices that are made every day, not just on Halloween. The mass shootings that are prevalent in our schools and other places. The massacring of children for no reason. I agree, this is evil.
But now, back to dressing up to role play on Halloween. I truly in my heart do not believe a mother schools her child in witchcraft, sorcery or any kind of black magic before she dons her little black hat and says, “Trick or treat.” Our little granddaughter will be a beautiful little enchantress this year and she has never heard of the root of witchcraft. Her siblings never turned from Christianity to Satanism over the Oct. 31 holiday.
Yes, I agree that sorcery is a sin and I know there are those who believe that they possess powers beyond the imagination, but not the little children dressing up to play a part in fun.
I will say that in my long and blessed life I have met and confronted some evil people, so I know without a doubt they exist. The Devil is a mighty foe, and he uses all within his power to steal our joy from everything. These are my thoughts and honest feelings.
Our church holds a trunk-or-treat even each Halloween evening to help keep the children off the streets to protect them from traffic and accidents of the hurried and busy night. And yes, they are allowed to dress up in costumes and role play just for this time. No sacrifices. No séance. No evil witchcraft. Just wholesome fun for the children in a Christian environment.
I am closing with this thought. If you are convicted it is wrong, don’t do it. If you feel as I do that it’s just a time of make believe with the trick-or-treating, follow your heart.
