EARLY NOTICE AND PUBLIC REVIEW OF A PROPOSED ACTIVITY IN A FLOODPLAIN
To: All interested Agencies, Groups, and Individuals
This is to give notice that the City of Charleston has conducted an evaluation as required by Executive Order 11988 and/or 11990, to determine the potential effect that its activity in the floodplains will have on the human environment for the City of Charleston’s potential 2025 CDBG Grant. This project will assist the City of Charleston with rehabilitation of the sewer system including improvements to the pump station serving the entire town, and several improvements to the sewer collection system. The proposed project(s) is located in the City of Charleston, and a map of activities is available upon request from Charleston City Hall.
There are three primary purposes for this notice: First, individuals who may be affected by activities in floodplains and those with an interest in protecting the natural environment should be given the opportunity to express their concerns and provide information about these areas. Second, an adequate public notice program can be an important public educational tool. The dissemination of information about floodplains can facilitate and enhance Federal efforts to reduce the risks associated with the occupancy and modification of these special areas. Third, as a matter of fairness, when the federal government determines it will participate in actions taking place in floodplains, it must inform those who may be put at greater or continued risk.
Written comments must be received by the City of Charleston at 135 Court Square, Charleston, MS 38921 on or before January 5, 2026, at 4:30 PM. Comments may also be submitted via email to bmanning@ndpdd.com
