Sandy Frieson Smith has authorized The Sun-Sentinel to announce her candidacy for reelection as Ward 4 alderwoman in Charleston.
Her statement follows:
“Hello, I’m Sandy Frieson Smith, a proud resident of Charleston, and your Ward 4 Alderwoman. It has been an honor to serve our community for two terms, and I am excited to continue advocating for the needs of our city.
“I have always been a voice for the people, ensuring that concerns are heard and solutions are found. My phone is always open because I believe leadership means being accessible and responsive to the community.
“I am a graduate of Coahoma Community College, the University of Mississippi, and William Carey University, where I earned my master’s degree. My professional career has been dedicated to education for the past 13 years, beginning in Head Start and progressing through various roles, including:
• Reading Interventionist
• African American Studies Teacher
• MTSS Coach
• Government & Economics Teacher at North Panola High School
“Teaching Government and Economics keeps me engaged with policies, economic trends and governance — knowledge I apply daily as an Alderwoman to make informed decisions for our city.
“Beyond the classroom, I am deeply committed to youth empowerment. I started working with young athletes through Trinity Youth League and later founded the Tallahatchie Delta Youth League (TDYL), creating opportunities for kids to develop skills, build confidence, and stay engaged in positive activities. I believe in investing in our youth — on and off the field — so they can reach their full potential.
“Additionally, I am a small business owner, operating Bell’s Transportation and Alexia Goat Milk Soap right here in Charleston.
Progress & Accomplishments
“During my time as Alderwoman, I have worked alongside city leaders to bring real improvements to Charleston, including:
