As state senator for District 13, representing Bolivar, Sunflower and Tallahatchie counties, I remain committed to ensuring our communities have the resources and support necessary to grow and thrive. The 2026 legislative session illustrated the importance of working together to move forward the priorities that matter most to the people we serve.
I am honored to work alongside Sen. Justin Pope and Rep. Tracey Rosebud. Together, we proudly represent Tallahatchie County, and we understand that staying unified and focused is essential to delivering meaningful results. Through strong collaboration and a shared vision, we’ve been able to make real progress for our constituents.
During this legislative session, we secured $500,000 in funding for local improvement projects in Tallahatchie County, including $100,000 for infrastructure improvements in the Town of Sumner; $200,000 for rehabilitation of the Tutwiler Activities and Convention Complex, and lighting improvements in the downtown area; and $200,000 for the Rosebloom Recreation Complex. These investments represent important steps toward strengthening our infrastructure and enhancing the quality of life for our residents.
Additionally, I introduced the Small Municipalities Federal Match Fund Bill, which has now been signed into law. This initiative is designed to assist small municipalities with populations of 10,000 or less in accessing federal and state grant opportunities by providing the necessary matching funds. Under this program, municipalities that are currently unable to apply for grants due to their inability to meet the required match will now have access to resources to fulfill the required 20% local match.
This legislation is a game changer and represents a significant advancement in ensuring that smaller communities, particularly those throughout the Mississippi Delta, have a fair opportunity to compete for and benefit from federal resources.
These accomplishments demonstrate what can be achieved through teamwork, dedication and a shared commitment to public service. I look forward to continuing this work alongside my colleagues as we strive to build a stronger, safer and more prosperous Tallahatchie County and the Mississippi Delta as a whole.
