Last week, Wednesday, March 20, to be specific, the spring season made its triumphant arrival. We were glad, because winter had gotten old.
With spring-like warmth already having reintroduced itself in our neck of the woods some time ago, we have been enjoying the budding trees and blooming flowers for weeks.
One day last week, we noticed that the planters in front of the Charleston Post Office and in several other locations around Court Square — including the big horse trough at the northeast corner of the Tallahatchie County Courthouse grounds —were bursting with color from beautiful tulips.
We hear that members of the Charleston Magnolia Garden Club are to be thanked for this added touch of springtime, and we thank them for their contribution to local beautification.
In the past, members of the Charleston Arts and Revitalization Effort (CARE), Charleston city workers, the National Charleston Day Organization and other groups and volunteers have played a role in bringing order and color to the city, and we applaud everyone who does whatever they can.
Spring is so anxiously anticipated and welcomed not only because its warmth signals the end of winter, but also because of the accompanying rebirth in nature that brings forth green grass and leaves, a vibrant palette of many colors and new life.
We are glad to see this season of the year.
