The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics recently released their State Employment and Unemployment Summary for January of 2023.
In January, Unemployment rates were lower in January in 5 states, higher in 2 states and the District of Columbia, and stable in 43 states. Nonfarm payroll employment increased in 20 states and was essentially unchanged in 30 states and the District of Columbia. The national unemployment rate (3.4 percent) fell 0.1 percent from the previous month, and stands at 0.6 percentage points lower than in January 2022.
The current unemployment rate for Mississippi (as of January 2023) stands at 3.9 percent.
For comparison, the unemployment rate for the previous reported month (December 2022) was reported as 4.0 percent.
Mississippi stands at a 0.2 percent decrease from the same point the previous year (January, 2022).
Mississippi's unemployment rate at the beginning of the previous year was 4.1 percent (in January, 2022).
The national unemployment rate currently stands at 3.4 percent, which has fallen 0.1 percent from December 2022 (last month's report).
