The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics recently released their State Employment and Unemployment Summary for May of 2023.
In May, Unemployment rates were lower in May in 11 states and stable in 39 states and the District of Columbia, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today.
Seventeen states had jobless rate decreases from a year earlier, 8 states and the District had increases, and 25 states had little change.
Nonfarm payroll employment increased in 5 states and was essentially unchanged in 45 states and the District of Columbia.
Over the year, nonfarm payroll employment increased in 42 states and was essentially unchanged in 8 states and the District.
The current unemployment rate for Mississippi (as of May 2023) stands at 3.2 percent.
For comparison, the unemployment rate for the previous reported month (April 2023) was reported as 3.4 percent.
Mississippi stands at a 0.5 percent decrease from the same point the previous year (May, 2022).
Mississippi's unemployment rate at the beginning of the previous year was 4.1 percent (in January, 2022).
The national unemployment rate currently stands at 3.7 percent, which has risen 0.3 percent from April 2023 (last month's report).
