CHARLESTON — Steve Smith, age 60, passed away Friday, Augt 17, at Methodist Germantown in Memphis.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Newsom Funeral Home in Charleston.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday afternoon, Aug. 22, beginning 4 p.m. at Smith Family Cemetery, Charleston on Steve’s home property. Interment will follow there at the Smith Family Cemetery.
Steve was very involved in the revitalizing of Charleston and the new Main Street Association, loved his community, being a DJ, a boy scout troop leader and police man.
Those left to cherish his memory include three brothers, Lee Smith (Dennia) of Houston, John Smith of Ft. Walton Beach, Fla. and Eugene “Gene” Luther Smith of Miami, Okla.; two aunts, Eleanor Worsham and Emily Etheridge, both of Charleston; cousins, Andi Stewart, Mandi Worsham Brown, Susan Magee, Buddy Etheridge and Stacey Etheridge, his special angels, Kallie Kent and Emma Worsham Brown, “his future.”
He was preceded in death by his parents, Erma Lee Jr. and Dolores Smith.
The family requests memorial contributions be made in Steve’s honor to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Le Bonhuer Children’s Hospital.
