ACS ‘Rally for a Cure’ scheduled
The annual American Cancer Society Rally for a Cure will be held Saturday, April 12, from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m., at the former National Guard armory in Charleston. The theme is “A Rainbow Race for Love.”
Prior to the event, a walkathon will be held starting at 8 a.m. on the Shade Street Walking Trail behind the East Tallahatchie School District office in Charleston. For more information about the walkathon, contact Mayor Sedrick Smith at 662-647-4171 or Lisa Moore at 662-809-0208.
The Rally will feature the usual silent auction; cakewalks; blood pressure, cholesterol and sugar health checks; face painting; a concession stand; and a balloon liftoff at 12 noon.
Anyone who is unable to attend may still send a donation to Rally for a Cure, P.O. Box 971, Charleston, MS 38921.
Robert Hill baseball/softball registers
Robert Hill Youth Foundation Inc. will conduct mass registration for its baseball and softball youth programs on Saturday, April 12, from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m., at the Terry’s Sports Bar and Grill patio in Charleston.
The registration fee is $75. Parents are responsible for cleats, pants, socks and gloves.
Play will be in the following divisions:
» 4- to 6-year-old T-ball
» 7- to 8-year-old coach pitch
» 9 - to 10-year-old baseball and softball
» 11- to 12-year-old baseball and softball
Registration continues through April 15, with practice beginning Saturday, April 19, at 10 a.m., at the Robert Hill Sports Complex.

Cross of Christ sets women’s event
The Cross of Christ Love Center in Charleston will conduct their annual women’s conference, “Women on a Mission,” on Saturday, April 12, beginning at 4 p.m. Everyone is invited, said assistant pastor Lula Wright-Ervin and pastor Mae Otha Gardner.

Locopolis plans usher day program
Locopolis Missionary Baptist Church invites everyone to fellowship with them Sunday, April 13, at 2 p.m., for their annual usher day program, where pastor Carl Ray of Union Grove and Mt. Charleston First Methodist Church will be the host for annual community Holy Week services, set April 14-18 at noon each day.

Calvary Food Pantry to distribute
Calvary Food Chapel, at 36 Ward-Riddick Road, just east of Parchman off Highway 32, will distribute food 7:30-9:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 19, for those living in the West Tallahatchie area and in Sunflower County outside the city limits of Drew (which has its own pantry). Food pantry distribution day is now the next-to-last Saturday of each month.
Charleston cleanup day on tap
The city of Charleston will host a cleanup day on Saturday, April 19, and is seeking volunteers to assist with the collection of trash from around city streets. Teasdale Auxiliary bake sale set
Teasdale Ladies Auxiliary will conduct a bake sale on Saturday, April 19, from 9 a.m. until. The event, which will feature cakes, pies, bread, casseroles and other baked goods, will be held at the Teasdale Ladies Auxiliary Building on Teasdale Road. All are invited.
Friendship church plans bake sale
Friendship Church of God will be having a bake sale Saturday, April 19, beginning at 10 a.m. in front of The Flower Basket on South Court Square in Charleston. Proceeds will benefit the church building fund.
Faith Food Pantry to distribute
Faith Food Pantry, located at 30028 Highway 32, Charleston, will distribute food from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 19. Food pantry distribution day is now the next-to-last Saturday of each month.

Sumner Rotary spaghetti supper set
Sumner Rotary Club’s annual spaghetti supper, cake walk and bingo event will be held on Thursday, April 24, starting at 6 p.m., at Da Spot, located at 214 S. Cherokee St. in Webb. The cost is $10 per plate for adults and children 12 and over, and $5 per plate for children under the age of 12. All are invited.

Club seeks members, volunteers
Join the West Side Alumni Booster Club on Saturday, April 26, at 10 a.m. to pick up trash on the campuses of R.H. Bearden Elementary School and West Tallahatchie High School. Members and volunteers will meet first at Bearden and then travel to West Tallahatchie for trash pickup at 11. The event will end at noon. “Come join us,” said a spokesperson.
Teasdale VFD sets annual fundraiser
Teasdale Volunteer Fire Department will conduct their annual fundraiser on Saturday, April 26, from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m.
Smoked chicken plates, which include two smoked chicken quarters, beans, slaw, bread and a drink, are still $12.
Chances also will be sold for a Bayou Classic fryer. Tickets are $5 each, or three for $10.
Advance tickets are available from Teasdale firefighters, or pay on the day of the event.

The Messiah’s Men will be in concert at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church beginning at 5 p.m. on Sunday, April 27. Fellowship will follow.
Saturday May 3
Yalo-Ribbon Festival set in Oakland
The fourth annual Yalo-Ribbon Festival will be held Saturday, May 3, from 3-7 p.m., in downtown Oakland.
Arts and crafts, live music, food trucks and the Kids Zone featuring mechanical bull-riding and games are highlights of the event. The cake walk also returns, and lucky winners will receive a cake donated by the churches and bakers in Oakland.
Live music begins at 4 p.m., and a new act takes the stage at 5 p.m. and 6 p.m.
