Holy Week services continuing
Charleston First Methodist Church is hosting annual community Holy Week services this week. Services began Monday and will continue through Friday, at noon each day.
Lunch will be available for $3 per person.

Truevine Holy Week revival ending
Truevine Missionary Baptist Church, Brazil, under the pastorage of Michael S. Baker II, will conclude Holy Week revival services Thursday, April 17, starting at 7 p.m. Pastor Gregory Buchanan, of Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, Tutwiler, will be the speaker. Everyone is invited to attend.
Blue Cane hosting spring revival
Blue Cane Missionary Baptist Church began spring revival Wednesday and continues Thursday, April 17, Friday, April 18, at 7 nightly. Host pastor is Rev. Clinton Brown. Guest speaker is Byron Whitehead, associate minister of Popular Spring Missionary Baptist Church of Enid. All are invited to attend.

Student art show deadline slated
Entries are being accepted until Friday, April 18, for the CARE Student Art Show, open to ages 5 to 18. Award ribbons and cash prizes will be given to winning entries during an April 25 reception. For more information, call CARE at 662-647-0942.
Saturday April 19
Calvary Food Pantry to distribute
Calvary Food Chapel, at 36 Ward-Riddick Road, just east of Parchman off Highway 32, will distribute food 7:30-9:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 19, for those living in the West Tallahatchie area and in Sunflower County outside the city limits of Drew (which has its own pantry). Food pantry distribution day is now the next-to-last Saturday of each month.
Charleston cleanup day on tap
The city of Charleston will host a cleanup day on Saturday, April 19, and is seeking volunteers to assist with the collection of trash from around city streets. Teasdale Auxiliary bake sale set
Teasdale Ladies Auxiliary will conduct a bake sale on Saturday, April 19, from 9 a.m. until. The event, which will feature cakes, pies, bread, casseroles and other baked goods, will be held at the Teasdale Ladies Auxiliary Building on Teasdale Road. All are invited.
Friendship church plans bake sale
Friendship Church of God will be having a bake sale Saturday, April 19, beginning at 10 a.m. in front of The Flower Basket on South Court Square in Charleston. Proceeds will benefit the church building fund.
Faith Food Pantry to distribute
Faith Food Pantry, located at 30028 Highway 32, Charleston, will distribute food from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 19. Food pantry distribution day is now the next-to-last Saturday of each month.

Mt. Pisgah sets Easter musical, meal
The Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church choir will present an Easter musical, “He Came for Us,” at 7 a.m. on Easter Sunday, April 20. An Easter breakfast meal will follow.

Sumner Rotary spaghetti supper set
Sumner Rotary Club’s annual spaghetti supper, cake walk and bingo event will be held on Thursday, April 24, starting at 6 p.m., at Da Spot, located at 214 S. Cherokee St. in Webb. The cost is $10 per plate for adults and children 12 and over, and $5 per plate for children under the age of 12. All are invited.

Art show reception set at CARE
CARE’s Student Art Show reception will be held on Friday, April 25, beginning at 5:30 p.m., at the Charleston Arts Center (CARE building). Ribbons and prize money will be awarded to winning entries.
Saturday April 26
Club seeks members, volunteers
Join the West Side Alumni Booster Club on Saturday, April 26, at 10 a.m. to pick up trash on the campuses of R.H. Bearden Elementary School and West Tallahatchie High School. Members and volunteers will meet first at Bearden and then travel to West Tallahatchie for trash pickup at 11. The event will end at noon. “Come join us,” said a spokesperson.
Teasdale VFD sets annual fundraiser
Teasdale Volunteer Fire Department will conduct their annual fundraiser on Saturday, April 26, from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m.
Smoked chicken plates, which include two smoked chicken quarters, beans, slaw, bread and a drink, are still $12.
Chances also will be sold for a Bayou Classic fryer. Tickets are $5 each, or three for $10.
Advance tickets are available from Teasdale firefighters, or pay on the day of the event.

Corinth sets night of praise, worship
A praise and worship service will be held at Corinth Baptist Church on Saturday, April 26, at 5 p.m. Bro. Larry Livingston will have a message. Everyone is invited. The Messiah’s Men will be in concert at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church beginning at 5 p.m. on Sunday, April 27. Fellowship will follow.

Camp Lakeside Day scheduled
The annual Camp Lakeside Day fundraising event will be held on Saturday, May 3, beginning at noon. The public is invited to enjoy a day of fun, food and fellowship.
“Bring your friends and family for an amazing day!” noted a publicist.
Catfish plates will be available for purchase, there will be inspiring gospel singing, and bounce houses will offer fun for the children who attend. A silent auction will be held from 12-4 p.m. and a cake auction begins at 4. A concession stand will be open.
Camp Lakeside is located at 1907 Lakeside Dr., Scobey.
Yalo-Ribbon Festival set in Oakland
The fourth annual Yalo-Ribbon Festival will be held Saturday, May 3, from 3-7 p.m., in downtown Oakland.
Arts and crafts, live music, food trucks and the Kids Zone featuring mechanical bull-riding and games are highlights of the event. The cake walk also returns, and lucky winners will receive a cake donated by the churches and bakers in Oakland.
Live music begins at 4 p.m., and a new act takes the stage at 5 p.m. and 6 p.m.

Kentucky Derby watch party slated
Join CARE on Saturday, May 3, beginning at 4 p.m., for a full-filled afternoon of mint juleps, peach tea, barbecue and watching the Kentucky Derby at the home of Patti and Ken Gregory in Charleston. Tickets can be purchased at CARE or in numerous local businesses in Charleston for $25.

Calvary Chapel sets weekend events
In an effort to give many people an opportunity to “see” and hear a life-changing Gospel (Good News) of Jesus Christ, Calvary Chapel has packed Easter weekend with special services and practical ministry.
An hour before the 6:30 p.m. revival service on Good Friday evening, April 18, the church’s gym will be open for youth to play table games, basketball and more. Then, a service will begin with music, praise, prayers and a message from God’s Word. Joe Johnson, associate pastor at Faith Baptist Church in DeWitt, Arkansas, will bring the message.
On Saturday morning, April 19, from 7:30 to 9:30, the church will hold its regular food pantry serving the community, and at 5:30 p.m. there will be an Easter egg hunt on the church lawn. All kids are welcome. Older youth can play in the gym. The revival service will begin at 6:30 p.m., and after a time of worship, Kevin Tribble, pastor at Bethany Baptist Church in Slate Springs, will bring the message.
Easter Sunday will be a day of worship, with the service beginning at 9:30 a.m. at Calvary Chapel. Steve Smith, a new minister from Grenada, will bring the message.
Everyone is invited to join for a weekend in the spiritual and practical service of the Lord.
UM student Pittman inducted
LaTonya Pittman, of Holcomb, an education major, was among over 120 University of Mississippi students welcomed into Tri-Alpha Honor Society, which honors the academic excellence of first-generation college students. The university held an induction ceremony March 27 at the Gertrude C. Ford Center Student Union Ballroom. Ceremonies on the Booneville, DeSoto, Grenada and Tupelo regional campuses took place in early April.
